The UDT-SEAL Association brings you the 2017 Inaugural Monster Mash Race at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront as part of the USO’s Patriotic Festival. Calypso Bar and Grill and Strike Force present a one of a kind “SEAL Challenge” on Sunday, June 04, 2017 in Virginia Beach. Participants are encouraged to test their mettle to see if they have what it takes. The 3.5 mile course takes you along the beautiful Virginia Beach Oceanfront and will feature plenty of challenges and obstacles for the “not so weak at heart.” Celebrate your finish knowing that for one day you were

The UDT-SEAL Association is a federally recognized non-profit Veteran Service Organization.

Founded in 1969 as a mechanism of support for NSW members and their families, the Association’s primary responsibilities were coordinating reunions and publishing a quarterly magazine. In 2010, due to the amount of support the active duty population was receiving from USSOCOM, and various benevolent organizations, the Association shifted its focus toward assisting the community’s veteran population.

The UDT-SEAL Association became a 501(c)(19) Veteran Service Organization (VSO) in 2013.

Pillars of Support: The Association focuses on three primary areas of support.

  1. Membership Support Transitional Assistance (MLAP)
    • Ensure Veteran members and transitioning NSW personnel receive their veteran benefits as well as the necessary guidance to succeed in civilian society.
  1. Scholarship Assistance to Dependent Children
  2. History, Heritage, and Esprit de Corps
    • Quarterly Blast Magazine, Reunions, History Lecture series

Start and finish on the Virginia Beach Oceanfront at 17th Street. Race Course continues on the sand North to 38th Street and returns along the water edge back to 17th Street.

General Questions

What do I get for my entry fee?

All Monster Mash registrants will receive a unique Monster Mash commemorative T-Shirt and a custom Dog Tag designed specifically for this race.

Are headphones and/or cell phones allowed during the race?

Headphones and listening devices are not allowed on the course for participants safety.

Are pets allowed during the race?

No. Pets are not allowed on the course. This is for the safety of our participants as well as an insurance liability.

Are baby joggers allowed during the race?

Due to the sand run portion of this event, baby joggers and strollers are not allowed during the race.

Will I receive a refund if I cannot attend? Can someone else run with my bib?

No refunds will be given, as proceeds benefit the UDT-SEAL Association, a Veteran Service Organization. Bibs/race numbers are non-transferable – no exceptions.

Is the Monster Mash course walker-friendly?

Yes! There will be plenty of participants who will need to walk or crawl to finish.

What are the age limits for Monster Mash?

We encourage participants 12 years and older to participate.

Packet Pick-up

When and where is packet pick-up?

Pick-up your pre-race packet at Patriot Park on 17th Street on Saturday, June 3, 2017. Swing by between 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM to pick up your race packet—then stay for the Concert.

If you cannot make it to packet pick-up the night before the race, you can pick up your packet between 6:30 AM – 7:30 AM on Race Day – Sunday, June 4, 2017.

Can I register on race day?

If the event is not sold out, race day registrations will be available.

Can someone else pick up my packet for me?

Yes, as long as they have a paper copy of your photo ID, and a printed letter signed by you providing permission for that person to pick up your packet – NO EXCEPTIONS.  You may pick up a family member’s race packet as long as your last name is the same and you have your ID.

Race Information

Where is the starting line?

17th Street at Patriot Park

What time should I be there?

We advise you to be at the race 60 minutes prior to the start time of 07:00 AM. Please allow plenty of time to find parking and get to the starting line on time.

Where can I park?

Parking is available throughout the resort area in metered parking spaces, and in the 9th Street Parking Garage, 19th Street Municipal Lot, or 25th Street Municipal Lot at current city rates. Plan on bringing some cash to pay for parking. Nearby parking is likely to fill up early though, so please leave yourself plenty of time, in case you have to park far away and walk. We STRONGLY ENCOURAGE you to carpool, ride your bike (bikes can be locked to the boardwalk), Uber/Lyft or get dropped off to avoid parking headaches – especially if you plan to enjoy the after party after the race!

Will spectators be able to view the finish?

Yes. There will be plenty of space along the boardwalk to view the finish.


Will the race be timed?

Yes. The race will be timed by J&A Racing.

Will my results be posted?

Yes. Your results will be posted shortly after the race.

What are the overall awards and prizes?

Awards will be given to the top athletes in the following categories upon conclusion of the race.

Will there be an awards ceremony?

Yes! The Monster Mash awards ceremony will be held immediately after the last heat at Patriot Park around 11:30 AM.
